Senior Litigation Assistant

We have an immediate opening for a Senior Litigation Assistant with 7-10 years’ experience.

Position Summary

As a Senior Litigation Assistant, you will be responsible for a wide variety of legal and administrative duties supporting a Partner in all aspects of a busy, varied litigation practice and an Associate in commercial litigation and cannabis law.

Familiarity with business litigation, real property litigation, alternative dispute resolution, negligence and professional liability, franchise litigation, and commercial leasing litigation is a definite asset.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Excellent knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Ability to complete legal documents from specific instructions and straightforward precedents, including: notices of motion, notices of examination, procedural orders, pleadings, Affidavit of Documents, ​preparation of factums, ​routine correspondence and reports, ​books of authorities, ​notices under the Evidence Act, Notices of Appeal, ​compendia, ​exhibits ​books and ​appeal books, and all other customary work in preparation for motions, trials and appeals
  • Thorough knowledge of procedural requirements under the Rules of Civil Procedure for service of documents and notices
  • Preparation of opinions
  • Assisting clients in applications for licenses (retail, cultivation, etc.) as well as agreements
  • Summarizing transcripts
  • Scheduling examinations, mediations, and discoveries
  • Handling files from start to finish, including administrative details with respect to accounting, opening and closing files, diarizing dates, docketing, billing, etc., as specifically directed by principal
  • Maintain office files/records in accordance with procedures
  • Maintain tickler system and calendar
  • Business development initiatives

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized college Law Clerk/Legal Administration diploma
  • Strong technical skills and proficient in Microsoft Office 2013, Document Management systems, and experience in ACL3 or ACL would be an asset
  • Ha​s exceptional written and communication skills; is organized and meticulous with follow-up and details; and is able to take initiative, prioritize, and multi-task
  • Has the desire to manage a busy practice and thrives as a right hand in a team
  • Available for overtime as needed
